 SKIN 2 of 3

These three P-38 skins are done with the purpose to provide two nice,
colorful but historically not incorrect mounts for those EAW Pilots that
loves to fly the Lightning, expecially in a South West Pacific Campaign.

Markings are provided for One aircraft from the 39th FS, 35th FG and two
aircraft of the 475th Fighter Group, going for a period that commences in
late 1942 and ends in August 1945.

With the ECA Panel you can fly the first skin (39thFS 35th FG camo) as a
P-38F.
From this outfit the first Commander of the recently formed (May 1943) was
transferred, along with few other pilots to take on the 475th FG.

So, you can continue (using the Car-Link files provided by Dominique
Legrand) your Career in the 475th FG flyng the second skin provided, that of
the camouflaged P-38 G or H with the blue trimmed spinners and tails.

Later you can switch to the Natural Metal one, flyng it as a P-38J, and L.

This is historically accurate.

The Markings of the two skins for the 475th FG are provided for two similary
marked planes, to give continuity in the career of a pilot.

The 475thFG was a Group that gived out many Aces, as Major Thomas McGuire
(38 victories) who flew various planes numbered 131 and named Pudgy.

Another Ace of the 475th was 1st LT Carroll Anderson, who flew ac # 194
named Virginia Marie.

Maj. R.I. ``Pappy Cline flew PAPPY Birrdie (# 135) when he took command of
431st Squadron following the death in combat of Maj. McGuire.

Colonel Charles MacDonald flew five different P-38, all named PUTT PUTT
MARU, while with the 475th FG. The famous #100 was his fifth, and MacDonald
flew it when he took command of the 475th FG. MacDonald scored a total of 27
victories.

Charles Lindberg, the famous pilot that crossed the Atlantic Ocean for the
first time, flew many missions (as a CIVILIAN !) with the 475th FG, teaching
the pilots how to improve the range of the P-38 to reach 9 hour duration in
the air. He usually used aircraft #196, in wich he obtained his only
victory, downing a Mitsubishi Ki-51 Sonia of the 73rd Independent Chutai,
piloted by the 73rd's C.O. Captain Saburo Shimada.

Almost all planes of the 475th FG sported nosearts, and normally each plane
was flown by a specified pilot.
Tactical numbers were as follows:

# 100 to 109 HeadQuarters Flight: Group Commanding Officer plane was #100.
from # 110 to 139 - 431st FS- Squadron color RED.
from # 140 to 169 - 432nd FS- Squadron color YELLOW.
from # 170 to 199 - 433rd FS- squadron color BLUE.

This and other very interesting things can be found out at the official
475th FG site. History, Pilots and so on. Visit it at:

The two 475th FG planes that I skinned are from the 433rd FS, squadron color
Blue, and both are tactical number 176. This number was chosen because there
is no record about who was the pilot that flew it, and if the plane had or
not a nose art or similar personalization. So feel free to use them as YOUR
plane.

A naked beauty, two aggressive Sharkmouths and some victories are the
personal markings I have chosen for them, hoping to please the majority of
P-38s fans.
The Sharkmouths, even if not used by the 475th FG as a Group or Squadron
markings were a Group marking of the 35th FG, from where some of the 475th
pilots come from.
So I added them to have a really strikingly looking plane, and are justified
for a pilot that had taken the Sharkmouth for his own personal marking.
A beautiful woman, better if with no clotes on her, was and is always a nice
sight, and is remembering pilots for what they are fighting so hard (not
only for freedom and pride!) ;) So here the Naked Beauty painted on the
nose...
Victories...Well, here in the EAW Virtual Sky, it is impossible to find out
one of us that is NOT an ACE...
No really....so here the Victory markings and everybody take heart...

I want to thank all the involved in the original work that made possible
for us all to have correct 3dz and skins for our virtual aircraft
collections.
They are:
Captain Kurt and Col. Gibbon for the 3dz work.
Col. Gibbon, again, for the original sharkmouthed skin from wich I started
part of the work on the camouflaged P-38s.
Alessandro Borges for his 3DZ Studio and Converter tools.
Nico LAs, for the original Natural Metal skin from wich I started part of
my work.

To all of them, once more, a great THANK YOU!

Enjoy and Good Hunting!
